划痕硬度测试仪 Model 413 可使用的全部试验法原则上都基于相同的方法：试样固定在一个转盘上（标准型号转速为 5 rpm）。试具与一个可调节重量的配重杆连接，借助该配重杆可调节试具施加给试样的压力（负载范围 0-10 N，每级 0.1 N,负载范围 0-1 N，每级 0.01 N）。根据发生的划痕情况可目测判定试样对于应力影响的耐抗性（有关详细信息请参阅使用说明书）。
