Description
This instrument is designed for testing the through-dry state of paints, lacquers and similar coatings in accordance with the standards ISO 9117and EN 29117.
Principle of Test
A test plunger faced with nylon fabric and loaded with a defined weight is lowered onto the test surface for a limited period of time and then turned through 90°.
The resulting effect on the coating is evaluated after lifting the test plunger.
Design and Function
The testing instrument consists of a specimen table holding a support stand that guides a
loaded weight vertically.
A test plunger is connected to the loaded weight via a ball-and-socket joint (total weight 1500 g). A rubber sheet (hardness 50 IRHD acc. to ISO 48) is stuck to the front end of the test head and a monofil nylon fabric (thread diameter 0.12 mm, size 100 x 100 mm) is attached to the test head and retained by an O-ring. Before each test a fresh piece of nylon fabric should be attached to the test head.
The testing instrument must be levelled horizontally before it is used. For this purpose the box level supplied with the instrument, is placed onto the specimen table and then the instrument is levelled with the help of the adjustable feet.
After a defined drying time the test head is lowered onto the specimen and thus the nylon fabric is pressed onto the test surface.
After 10 s the test head is turned through 90° and after another 2 s it is lifted.
If no marks or damages can be observed on the test surface the through-dry state has been achieved. Otherwise the test must be repeated after an appropriate period of time (please refer to the standards).
